Why Effective and Well Written Meta Tags Matter

Meta tags are used to provide summarized information about your web page. This information is a critical piece of Search Engine indexing algorithm. When Search Engine robots such as Google bot crawl your web page, they aren’t going to index every single byte of your web page data. Search Engine bots are smart enough to consume your web page information and figure out what it is all about. However, when they index your web page for SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), there are two sets of datasets that they gather. First set is the indexing information about your web page. This information is derived from the content on your web page, outgoing internal or external links and overall “theme” of your web page. How this information is formulated and utilized in Search Engine output is proprietary and not disclosed by Search Engines. However, second set of date that Search Engines keep about your web page comes directly from the Meta tags on your web page. This is what displays in SERPs and web page cached output.
